6 Things You Should Have In Your Backyard

Our backyards tend to be forgotten treasures. We don’t all know how to maximize the use of our outdoor space. Whether you have just moved into your new home or you are looking for ways to spruce up your backyard, we have some suggestions.

Gas Grill $300

We don’t have to wait for a sunny day to get out the grill. Cooking on an outdoor grill gives food a unique taste that you can’t get from other methods of cooking. And there is so much more you can do than plain hamburgers! The Char-Broil Performance 300 is an excellent gas grill and it even costs less than $300! There is a 15.6” x 18.5” porcelain-coated cast iron grate for cooking, a small tray to keep the food warm and two fold-down metal tables. The propane tank fits nicely into a cabinet, so the whole unit looks tidy.  There are four wheels to easily move the grill around. All you need to do it push the ignition button to fire up the grill and you can keep an eye on the temperature with the gauge in the lid!

Darts is a great game for a bit of friendly competition or family fun. For some people, the backyard is the best place to play the game. So you need an outdoor dart board. There are a few different types of board, plastic, magnetic and the traditional bristle board. Plastic is a great option if you are going to leave the board out in the rain but it’s best not to leave it in direct sunlight if you get high temperatures. Magnetic is perfect for children because it is nice and safe. If you prefer a traditional dartboard you will need one with a plastic cover or cabinet. Viper is a well-known dartboard brand. The Viper Hideaway Cabinet is great value for money with two games in one, flip the board and you can play baseball darts. Inside the cabinet, you will find chalk scoreboards. It’s super thin (just 2.1”) and it is easy to install.

A Pool

There is no better way to cool down on a hot day than with an outdoor pool. Backyard pools have improved leaps and bounds over the years. Intex is one of the most popular brands of inflatable and metal frame pools. They have lots of different shapes and sizes so you may not need as much space as you think, or as much money! The 8ft round pool has an inflatable rim. Once blown up, fill up with water and you are ready to go.  If you want something a little sturdier, they have a 12ft Prism steel frame. Neither of these has a filter system, so it is worth buying a cover to go over it. Sometimes you are better off spending a little extra (even just $20-$30) to get a filter system with the pool. This 10ft metal frame pool comes with a filter. All of these options can be packed away, ready for next summer.

Solar lights

This might seem a little trivial compared with a grill and a pool, but solar lights are ideal to add atmosphere to your backyard. And before you ask, yes, they really do work! You could choose between spotlights, fairy lights, wall lights, or path lights. There are sets of colored lights too. If you have steps in your garden, a set of solar lights can light them up to make them a lot safer.  Motion sensor solar lights are excellent if you are worried about security. This one will light up 200 square feet. If you want to light up a path this pack of 16 Sursun outdoor lights is less than $30 and you don’t need to install them, just push them into the ground!  Flowers, butterflies, and mushrooms seem to be the most popular decorations but you can find more decorative solar lights here.

Herb garden

Herb Garden
Best Herb Garden

We love herb gardens! Herbs are easy to grow so you don’t have to worry if you aren’t the best gardener. There is also a huge range of styles and designs so it doesn’t matter if your backyard is a huge or just a small patio. For small spaces, you can use the Meiwo vertical garden. It is made of felt cloth and has 7 pockets. It is also really cheap so if you are doubting your gardening abilities you won’t be investing too much. At the other end of the scale is the VegTrug planter pocket. It is made of wood and you will have to assemble it but the main advantage is the height, so you won’t have to bend down!

Retractable clothesline

It’s a necessary evil- the laundry! While many are tempted to use a clothes dryer, nothing beats clothes dried in the fresh air! Not to mention the benefits for the environment and your electricity bill! The problem is, traditional clotheslines are so big and ugly! Although retractable clotheslines require some installation, they take up next to no space and they don’t affect the appearance of your backyard. BESy has a 9.2ft retractable line that fits inside a small stainless steel case. It even comes with the necessary screwdriver. While not as attractive, the 7Penn line is 40ft, ideal for families.

Woodsball vs Speedball – A Paintballer’s Dilemma

woodsball vs speedball

There are many options available to a paintball player. One of these options is choosing between Woodsball or Speedball, a very controversial topic in paintball circles. Scenario paintball, or advanced woodsball, is an alternative, but is typically scripted and requires more preparation.

The area, game dynamics, strategies, and equipment are a bit altered.

One of the primary aspects you will notice is that Woodsball areas are bigger than the Speedball areas. Woodsball areas are played out in the forest, or as the name suggests, the woods, and can accommodate up to 1000 players on a side!

Speedball areas are smaller. It’s the best choice for players that love action-packed games.

Party Size

Your party size is 1 aspect you may wish to take under account when choosing between Woodsball and Speedball. In case you’ve got a large group, you might want to select Woodsball so you have more space to spread out. Small teams might be more interested in Speedball so the games don’t take too long. While staff size is definitely something to think about, you need to team size should be a lesser priority.

If you need a slightly slower, more tactical game, go with Woodsball. Having a smaller area, Speedball games don’t take very long. It’s more challenging to hide and a lot simpler to eliminate opponents. In a Woodsball game, players spread out more and conceal making for a longer match.

Would you rather have to move quicker, but not far, or further, but with a little more time? In Speedball you will need a fast reaction time to have the ability to jump from bunker to bunker without getting hit. Woodsball enables more time for you to move around as long as your competitors are not too close.

The plan is an important part of any paintball game. Speedball’s plans are typically somewhat easier. Unlike Woodsball, you do not have to think as much about motion or hiding places. As you still should strategize, you’re in such close quarters that there are fewer choices.

If you are the sort of person who enjoys competition, Speedball might be the ideal selection for you. Woodsball is a much better choice for people who want things slightly more relaxed and laid back. In general, being adventuresome will serve you best for Speedball while being stealthy and considerate will help you in a Woodsball game.

Choose the right gun

After you choose which kind of game you wish to play, you should take your gear into consideration. You want to choose an electronic gun for speedball, and perhaps a mechanical firing gun for woodsball.

For woodsball, you may wish to concentrate on selecting a gun which can fire long distances properly. For Speedball, you may wish to concentrate on rapid-fire speed so that you can both defend your self and take our many competitions.

Whichever gun or game you choose, you’re guaranteed to have fun playing with your friends. Personally, I prefer speedball, as I can rattle off my electronic Planet Eclipse Gtek at full throttle!

Speedballers heading out

Communication is perhaps the key to achievement.

You need everyone to be on the same page so that your strategy will work without any issues. Sometimes you will need to modify the plan mid-game based on what your competitors do.

In a Speedball game, it’s easy to communicate with everybody since they’re typically just a few yards off, and typically you only have a handful of teammates.

On the flip side, conversing in Woodsball is tough. You might not be able to yell because it could give away your position. If you select Woodsball, make certain to have a backup plan or bring Walkie-Talkies.

down comforter all season benefits

The Benefits of an All-Season Down Comforter

For an item that is considered an extravagance by most people, all season down comforters are remarkably popular. This begs the question, why people all over the world would be willing to go out of their way to purchase commodity such as this?

Well, the answer is simple: The benefits outweigh the cost by a very large margin.

The current age is characterized by individuals spending long hours at work and school and less at home, with only a few hours left for sleep. It is only proper that the short time during which we sleep is spent in utmost bliss.

Down comforters are immensely comfortable and warm due to the stuffing inside the bedding. The comforters offer consistent temperature all year round regardless of the season.

Warm in the winter, cool in the summer

During the chilly winter nights, the down comforters have insulating capabilities making certain that one does not feel cold while sleeping, thus ensuring that as soon as one has purchased their down comforter, they will not have the plight of looking for more bedding when the weather gets cooler.

In the rather hot summer nights, the comforters unsure that body heat does not get trapped beneath the covers allowing one to have a very comfortable time sleeping.
People are known to sleep better when they have covered themselves in lightweight material. However, we do recommend a heavier, weighted blanket if you suffer from anxiety or insomnia.

They often have to compromise on warmth so that they can have light bedding. This is a thing of the past when it comes to all season down comforters. These comforters are ultra lightweight, giving buyers the comfort of light bedding alongside warmth. This allows them to sleep better and more comfortable than how synthetic duvets would.

People often argue that many fabrics that provide the kind of warmth that down comforters would provide. Their argument would prove very sound under other circumstances. There are many things that these fabrics lack, specifically the absorbent nature of down comforters.

These fabrics provide a lot of warmth but also serve to keep the sweat and moisture collected on the body during the night, leaving the person sleeping very uncomfortable.

Down comforters are porous, pulling moisture away from the skin, allowing one to spend the night as dry as they were just before they went to bed.

Avoid Synthetic Comforters

Synthetic comforters and duvets are normally cheaper than down comforters, and are therefore often desirable.

However, these cheap alternatives are never as long lasting as down comforters. They lose their loft after repeated washing, and the stuffing becomes unevenly spread, leaving one very uncomfortable as he/she is sleeping because of the lumps that form after a short period of repeated washing.

Down bounces back into its original shape even after being washed over a long time, and therefore these comforters do not need to be frequently replaced as much as their synthetic counterparts would.

Needless to say, down comforters are a very necessary commodity in every home for the peace and tranquility that comes with proper sleep. We should all make a point of purchasing an all season down comforter for ourselves and our loved ones!

LED Grow Lights An Introduction to Tailored Plant Lighting

LED Grow Lights: An Introduction to Tailored Plant Lighting

Why are so many indoor growers switching over to LED grow lights? One of the main reasons has to do with potential energy savings. LEDs are able to convert electricity into the specific wavelengths of light that plants actually use. This means less wasted energy and less heat. By providing custom spectrums of light, LEDs allow growers to spend less on expensive and bulky equipment and are now able to grow in tighter quarters. With you get highly efficient and cost saving to grow light that your plants are sure to love! Now that we have you excited about LED grow lights, would you like to know a little more?

A Little About LEDs

LEDs are made of crystals and work by emitting light when electrical currents run through them. First developed in the early 1900s this technology wasn’t available to the masses until the early 1960s.  The colors of LEDs (light emitting diodes) are determined by the different elements used to make them. Why did it take so long for LEDs to show up in commercial products? Well, the different colors of the spectrum weren’t all developed at the same time.  The earliest LEDs were red and as research continued, other colors eventually followed such as amber, yellow, green, and blue.  It wasn’t until the early 1990’s that the full RGB LED display was developed.

One interesting note about LEDs is that they produce more light as the more electrical current runs through them.  But as you can guess, more electrical current means increased heat.  So it’s important that LEDs in any product (grow lights or televisions) are kept cool.  A cooler LED can produce more light.

Understanding Photosynthesis

So why do LEDs make the perfect grow light? Well, it’s important to first refresh our knowledge of how plants work.  Then we’ll be able to see why LEDs are the frontrunner when it comes to grow lighting.

All plants start photosynthesis by using Chlorophyll-A (peak response at 430nm and 680nm) and Chlorophyll-B (peak response at 450nm and 660nm). The most important light used by plants for photosynthesis is red light found in the 650 to 700nm range. Blue light is also required as it signals the plant to start absorbing CO2. These are the main two colors of light used by plants.  Other colors like green are hardly used at all.  In fact, the reason why plants look green is that they’re reflecting (not absorbing) green light.  Interesting, right?

Now traditional growers have used HPS lamps along with large and bulky cooling equipment. A look into their efficiency shows that over 60 percent of the energy used to power these lights are wasted in the form of heat and UV light. That means less than 35 percent of the energy needed to power these lights are actually usable by plants. Don’t get us wrong; HPS lights do have their applications. They’re great for general illumination and since they produce a lot of green light (humans are most sensitive to green light) people find HPS lights to be really bright. Perfect for lighting up a baseball stadium but with less than 10 percent of their output in the blue and red wavelengths that plants use, they’re less than ideal for growing plants.

A Tailored Spectrum: Just What a Plant Needs

LED grow lights are very efficient because they let us tailor the light output of our grow lights in accordance to what a plant actually needs. By converting electricity into the specific red and blue that plants use for photosynthesis, these grow lights reduce heat and more importantly, conserve electricity.

Finding the Right Size and Style of Shutters

Choosing the right shutters for your home is an important initial step. Make sure you choose the right size shutters for your windows. Generally, shutters should match the height of the window or door you are embellishing.

Basic black shutters offer you a simple, stylish look for most homes. There are other choices. They’re available in a number of colors and lengths. Most have color matched mounting hardware. Vinyl has become the most popular choice. It resists fading, rot, peeling and breaking. The woodgrain finish with routed edges provides a real wood appearance.

Great to Know

Shutters are not for curb appeal. Consider them for the back of your house where you probably spend the majority of your time.

How to Install Exterior Shutters
Well first you need a company that can help you with removing existing shutters. We recommend these guys for curtain installation in Omaha.

If the previous walls are securely fastened to the home, do not pry or pull them off since this may damage the exterior wall. If at all possible, use shears or a saw to get behind the shutter and cut the fasteners.

Installing fresh shutters

Hold the shutter beside the window in the spot that appears best and push a pencil through the holes to mark where to place your screws. Use the pencil marks in your house for a guide for drilling pilot holes for your screws. Then use a drill to secure the shutter to your house with screws. Do not overtighten.

To prevent warping, do not attach the dividers closely. Also, drill the hole at the siding 1/4 inch larger than the fastener.

Attaching to masonry: You are going to require a masonry bit and masonry wall anchors or suitable spikes (if supplied with shutters.

Painting Shutters

Wooden shutters could be primed or painted any color, according to customer preference. For vinyl shutters, first, prepare the surface with a plastic primer product. Apply by following the instructions on the can. Wait the required amount of time and use paint to the shutters. For optimum results, use an exterior oil based paint or exterior latex paint.

Pay attention: Paint drying time varies because of weather conditions. Painting fresh dividers may invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty. Some shutters cannot be painted or stained.
